Inserting Ladder Elements

To insert a ladder element into the rung, an existing ladder element must be selected, as shown in the following figure.

The selected element will be surrounded by a dashed green rectangle. There will also be a red dot indicating where the new element will be inserted, called the insertion point.

Ladder elements can be inserted in three different ways.

1. Using the keyboard

Using the following shortcuts:

  • C key: Insert contact
  • F key: Insert function block
  • O key: Insert output coil
  • X key: Change ladder element

2. From the Ladder Editor Toolbar

  • Insert a contact in the rung
  • Insert a function block in the rung
  • Insert an output coil in the rung
  • Change a ladder element

3. From the Ladder Element Palette

To insert elements from the palette, you must use the drag-and-drop function. To do this, click on the element in the palette, hold the mouse down, move the mouse to the insertion point in the ladder, and release the mouse button.

After inserting an element (in this case, a contact), the rung will look like this:
